How to apply adequate electric lighting in a home

Adequate lighting in a home is for both aesthetics and functionality. It is important for the developer to match the needs of a room to the lighting. The wiring or power points should be in place for the home owner to use. This is possible though sometimes the lighting needs may require additional fixtures. The light fittings may be ceiling hang, wall mounted, down lighters or valance lighting. Valance lighting involves using a box structure with a florescent tube in place.

The box structure provides adequate lighting in the living, bedroom, dinning, study and kitchens. This provides light over beds, curtain boxes or kitchen cabinets. The different light fittings are of various types. The decorative fitting is used to illuminate a particular feature or object in a home. The down lighters are used for illuminating a particular spot in a kitchen, living room or bedroom. For the kitchen it is used over the worktops. In the bedroom they can be used around the bed space in the ceiling.

When applying adequate lighting in a home, it is important to choose fittings that allow energy saving bulbs. The location of furniture in the living room guides the point of the light fixture. Along a stair case or in a dining room, brackets may be fixed on the wall for maximum illumination. This are fixed about six and half to seven feet high from the floor level. Other fittings may be localized to a specific point. This is like in the door way, center of the room or corridor.

In the family room where televisions are located or guests are sitting, soft lighting is required. This reduces the sharp contrast between the screen and the darkness in the room. Accent or wall lights with a cover are ideal for such areas. When fixing, care should be taken to avoid reflecting the light back on the screen. When providing light in bathrooms and lavatories, it should be water proofed. This is due to the moisture that arises in the wet areas. This are usually ball or bulk heads fittings with bright but not shiny light.
