Painting commences by first preparing the surfaces. The plastered surfaces should be dry and the work should only be done in dry conditions. The work starts by sanding and rubbing down. It is to ensure all loose mortar and dirt is removed. It is done with a sand paper. A brush is used for removing dust off the wall. Repairs or corrections should have been done to avoid wetting the dry walls. In timber surfaces knotting is be done before sanding.
Painting also involves priming or applying undercoats on wall surfaces. Before proceeding this undercoats dries first. Filling is done next to patch up any dents on the wall with fillers. This are then sanded smooth. The first coat is then applied. After it has dried, the second filling is done to ensure smooth surfaces. Fine glass paper is used to rub down the fillers. This should be very smooth for oil based or enamel paints to avoid hair lines.
The painting proceeds to the second and final coats. Each coat should be left to dry thoroughly before the next is applied. This work should d be done with a good brush. The decoration should also not show brush marks. Other tools that can be used include spray guns and rollers. Remember that its advisable to do the final coat after major dusty or wet floor finishes are completed. If there are different colors in the surface, use a tape to mark the joints.
